Inverness is a unique village of country homes on minimum one-acre home sites and prestigious townhomes all designed in harmony with the natural surroundings. Founded by Thomas Atkinson in 1833, the hilly terrain was not conductive to farming so the successive owners were gentlemen farmers until the land was purchased by Arthur J. McIntosh in the 1930's for development of single family residences. Forseeing the dramatic growth of the northwest suburbs, protective restrictions were placed on building and development to enhance the residential flavor of the community.

Organized recreational activities include a private country club with its 18 hole golf course, private stables with miles of wooded bridle paths, and a 5 acre playfield with community center and tennis courts. There is an organized women's club, book club, bridge club, children's playgroup and garden club. The local YMCA is just a short distance away and the Deer Grove Forest Preserve provides fishing, cross country skiing, nature trails and a toboggan slide.

The quality of schools matches the quality of the community and it's residents. The elementary and high schools are provided by neighboring Barrington and Palatine. These award winning institutions provide numerous gifted programs as well as a college preparatory curriculum. For advanced and continuing education, Harper College is situated next to Inverness.

Inverness provides an abundance of unspoiled beauty which has attracted corporate executives, business owners and professional people to diverse and exciting community.
